The Cost of Living.

How much grass in a field,
plus how many trees in a wood
times a beach full of pebbles
- is the cost of a week-full of food!

Count the drops in a rain shower
then fathom the depth of the sea
add to the mass of a mountain
to work out the price of tea!

The value of things that are priceless
- that are worth their weight in gold
add up to a world of distortion, or extortion
where one pays just not to be cold.

Flavour of the Month.

What day is it today? Wednesday, wash day.
A pail full of rain goes a long way, I say.
First, brush my teeth,
then rinse my hair
and sort out the clothes too dirty to wear.
Give them a swill, a bit of soap too
- the water’s gone grey - but more I can do.

Take off my boots, for to wash my feet,
leave my socks on, they’ll soon dry in this heat.
What else needs a clean?
I ask of my bucket.
Does that dog smell disgusting, or what?
Ah ***k it! In you go, Conall,
stop splashing around.
You’re wasting the water
and soaking the ground.

- I’ve not finished yet - there’s more on my mind.
Potatoes, carrots, a bit of pork rind
and there you go -
I’ve got soup for my dinner!

Life on the road, eh?
Not bad, for a beginner.
